An IRONMAN is a -
- 2.4 mile swim
- 112 mile bike
- 26.2 mile run
When I was a freshman in college, I watched Chris Herren command a gym full of students, as he walked us through his path of addiction and, subsequently, how he regained his life and purpose in recovery. Although I had no concept of the massive impact that alcoholism and addiction have across all walks of life, I was inspired by his story of recovery and mission to help others.
Many years later, the former basketball star's Herren Project continues to work to provide treatment, education, and recovery opportunities to people and families in need. People's lives can go down an infinite number of paths - under the slogan "Be You," the Herren Project provides resources to help people gain health and purpose.
Herren Project is a national nonprofit organization providing free resources and support for the treatment, recovery and prevention of substance use disorder. Services include treatment placement assistance, long-term recovery support for individuals and families, online support groups, prevention and wellness initiatives, as well as scholarships for treatment programs, recovery housing and recovery coaching. Herren Project was founded in 2011 by former professional basketball player, Chris Herren, who has been in long-term recovery since August 1, 2008.Together we recover...as we support, inspire & empower those affected by substance use disorder. www.herrenproject.org
