Story
In 2014 we lost my brother Samuel to Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-limiting genetic condition which affects the lungs and digestive system and can cause chronic infections and reduced lung function.
Samuel will always be my hero and looking back I never fully appreciated his mental strength. Throughout his life which included daily physio, nebuliser, drug treatment and regular trips to hospital, he very rarely complained and never allowed it to control his life.
Although he was never afraid to talk about CF, unless you knew him well you would not realise he suffered from this life changing condition, he never used it as an excuse.
As well as his mental toughness he was also a great sportsman playing football, cricket, golf and especially hockey to a high level. I wanted to take on a challenge in his honour that would push me physically and mentally. I have therefore challenged myself to do an Ironman, a triathlon involving a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and a 26.2 mile run.
I am hoping to raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. This charity is fighting for a brighter future for people with CF and their families by funding cutting-edge research, driving up standards of care and supporting people with the condition and their loved ones every step of the way.
Any donations, big, small or even just messages of support would be greatly appreciated.
