Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On June 23rd I will be taking part in my 2nd Great Notts Bike Ride to raise the much needed funds for the Big appeal which this year is for the Neonatal units within the QMC and City Hospital. I rode 25 miles last year, this year I'm stretching to 50!!! Raising money and losing weight at the same time!!
Our son Ollie was born prematurely on 28th July 2014, at 29 weeks gestation (10 weeks early), weighing 3lb 8oz. The neonatal doctor visited to warn us of the risks of premature birth and gave us a 60/40 chance of Ollie’s survival......
After a very scary few hours Ollie arrived in a breach position by natural labour on the Monday afternoon. He was taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit immediately, We were physically and emotionally exhausted, just existing with tears of joy but completely overwhelming anxiety. It was a rollercoaster of taking hour by hour or day by day, watching and wishing Ollie to grow and develop, and seeing our family come into our bubble for a short time to see our beautiful boy, but then watching them leave back into the world that was still going on outside.
Ollie had several setbacks, back in to intensive care and back in to low dependency but we were there day and night. I can only describe this time as an emotional rollercoaster, of complete lows but some real highs. We were finally discharged home on 16th September 2014.
Ollie is now a happy and very healthy 4 Year old and a fantastic big brother to sister Sophie. who also has received medical treatment as she was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect at birth and is under constant observation at both Nottingham hospitals and Leicester's Glenfield hospital.
We’re supporting the Big Neonatal Appeal to raise money for parent and family accommodation, life-saving equipment and research, to thank the hospital for everything they have done for our family. We hope you will consider doing the same.
