Story
9 years ago i went on my first run, it wasn’t something i was planning on doing, I wasn’t running to better my health or to join a race. I went for a run because my housemate asked me to, and he was a great housemate & friend. Marty was just starting to run himself and back then i wasn’t in too bad shape so it was pretty easy going. It became our routine to go for a little 4k around the racecourse, and maybe an extra 1k of the Hillcourt loop.
Marty went on to be one hell of a runner and I didn’t quite catch the bug, so i didn’t join him whilst he racked up the medals which is a regret.
In December Marty passed away, this year he would have done the London marathon, and he no doubt would have been doing the Cheltenham half.
It feels right to run it in remembrance of him, but this time I’m the one out of shape, Marty would be running rings around me. Running without a running partner is so much harder. Just chatting and giving each other the occasional bit of motivation was what it was all about. If it wasn’t for Marty I wouldn’t be able to get out now, when i need motivation he’s there for me.
So in September I’ll be there, Marty will be with me. I’m raising money for Sue Ryder, a charity close to Martys heart. If you’d like to donate I’d appreciate it. Thank you.
