Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On September 9th 2018 we will be taking on the Great North Run raising funds in aid of The Great North Children’s Hospital Foundation...... dressed as Wonder Woman.  One slightly crazy Wonder Woman  will also be running Royal Parks Half Marathon on 14th October 2018 followed by Dublin Marathon on 28th October 2018!

We have all decided to take on this challenge as GNCH has been taking amazing care of Bella and her parents.  In May 2018 Bella was diagnosed with a Germinoma, a form of brain cancer, after having a number of health difficulties for some time.  Bellas tumour is attached to her pituitary gland which has also caused her to have Multiple Pituitary Hormone Deficiancy which in essence means her thyroid, growth hormone and cortisol production are severely compromised.  Alongside this she also has diabetes insipidus.

This diagnosis came as a major shock but Bella has taken everything in her stride.  She has been amazing whilst undergoing scans, blood tests, a lumber puncture, a biopsy on her tumour, taking several different medications a day and finally starting her chemotherapy.  Bella will be undergoing 4 rounds of chemo followed by 30 sessions of radiotherapy.  It is believed Bella is the youngest child in the North East region to have this type of cancer.

Throughout her treatment, Bella will be looked after by the dedicated staff of GNECH.  Alongside some of the countries best medical clinicians Bella will also have access to play therapies, the hospital library and the nurses magic cupboard (which includes all sorts of goodies like cuddly toys and selfie sticks).  By supporting us to raise £2700 it is hoped we can help the staff and wards of the children’s foundation to continue providing the best care possible for Bella and lots of other boys and girls who may need it.

Bella really is our very own Wonder Woman - with a little Warrior Princess and Bionic Woman thrown in for good measure.  Please support us to do something amazing in her honour, she really is our inspiration x
