Story

Stewart & Lucy Alexander have decided to throw caution to the wind and embark upon the Rust 2 Rome Challenge in June 2023 in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

The epic journey will see them leave South Queensferry on 4th June in a car that had to cost less than £1,000 or be more than 20 years old, travelling more than 4,500 miles to hopefully arrive in one piece in Rome ten days later.

The dynamic duo will be behind the wheel of none other than Bella – a majestic Volvo 940 Estate - rescued from Wales.

The “My Name’5 Doddie” charity resonated with Stewart and Lucy having experienced the loss of a family member who was also both a remarkable character and an inspiration.

Isobel MacKay, originally from the Isle of Arran and a former nurse in Glasgow who had since moved and made Canada her home, was diagnosed with MND at a similar time as Scottish Rugby Union player Doddie Weir and lived with the illness for a similar time period.
She profoundly touched family and friends throughout her life with her love, hopefulness and joy.

To honour both their memories, the adventurous duo were keen to take on this challenge which includes Lucy’s first camping experience and Stewart’s first attempt at creating a 240 hour playlist with no repeats!
