Story
On 4th July I'll be undertaking the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride in aid of The Christie Hospital. That's a trip of 60 miles (slightly longer than my home-train station daily ride of 3.5 miles!). It's going to be a bit of a challenge, to say the least!
The Christie hospital is a cancer treatment hospital situated in the North West. My Dad was treated there after he was diagnosed with lung cancer, a good few years ago now. Sadly he didn't survive his cancer, but spending some time visiting the hospital made me realise what a terrible thing cancer is, how is destroys lives and spreads misery and grief to everyone it touches. The Christie hospital does wonderful work in fighting the good fight against cancer, but also in treating the misery and grief that cancer brings. It must be a hard job. I know I wouldn't have the strength to work there and keep smiling every day, to make other people smile every day, to bring people hope. That's what they do there. I can't do that, but I can cycle 60 miles. It might hurt (a bit..okay, probably a lot) but it's worth it.
