3 years ago, at the age of 18, I was diagnosed with the faulty gene that causes the development of Huntingtons Disease.
Until today, 5 people out-with my family new this about me.
Huntingtons Disease is a condition that stops parts of the brain working properly over time, usually becoming fatal after approximately 20 years of symptoms. There is currently no cure.
Therefore, people with the condition rely on the support and services provided by charities such as the Scottish Huntingtons Association (SHA).
Since my diagnosis there is one quote that has stood out for me, and that is, ‘we all have two lives, the second begins when we realise we only have one’ ~ Confucius. 3 years ago my second life and a new story began, running my first marathon.
Following on from the success of the 2019 Edinburgh Marathon, myself and the association re-collaborated in June. I am now extremely excited to announce, sponsored by the Scottish Huntingtons Association, in 2023:
LONDON MARATHON (23/04/2023)
STAFFORD HALF IRONMAN (11/06/2023)
BOLTON IRONMAN (02/07/2023)
No matter if we have only talked briefly or have been close for years, I cannot emphasise enough how inspirational seeing all of your hard work and achievements has been over the years and I must say a huge thank-you to you all for the unrelenting positivity and support you have shared with me throughout previous events.
I am relieved that it’s now finally time to openly share the most personal and biggest challenge of my life with you all in support of such an important organisation.
Your support is greatly appreciated. Let’s go get it. 🏊♂️🚴♂️🏃
