Story
We are Adam and Alex aka Team Rusty Rhinos
In the summer of 2014, our 5th charity rally will take place.
Our 5th rally, The Beijing Rally 2014, will be one of our most ambitious adventures to date.
We'll be driving from London, England to Beijing, China, covering over 10,000 miles (16,000 km) in just 28 days. Our rally will go through Kazakhstan and Mongolia so that we can minimise the amount of tarmac we'll be driving on and maximise time off-road.
Once in Ulan Bataar in Mongolia, we'll head south to Beijing cutting right through the Gobi desert.
(For more information on our preparation and progress, check out our web site at http://www.rustyrhinos.com)
The challenge
Departing from London, we'll be travelling through Europe, aiming to be in Sevastopol in the south of the Ukraine within 4 days! Sevastopol is over 2,000 miles (3,200 km) from London.
This is only the start of our challenge as our half a century old 1963 Land Rover isn't known for its sporty or comfortable characteristics.
Once in Ukraine, we'll cross Russia and head into Kazakhstan where the serious off-road will begin.
In 2007, we drove through the Kazakhstan and snapped our leaf spring suspension 6 times in total! It is certainly a gruelling terrain for most vehicles!
When we get to Mongolia, we'll be permenantly driving off-road and camping out in the wilderness, we'll then drive through the Gobi desert and head south towards Beijing.
We will be on our own, with no support team or backup of any kind and no other teams.

Why on earth are we doing this?
Our aim, as with all of our rallies, is to raise much need funds for Mercy Corps while having fun exploring the world in a different way.
Mercy Corps exists to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities.
The Mercy Corps provides crisis response, such as in the recent events in Syria and provides support for vulnerable people. The Mercy Corps supports rural communities and herding families through economic, educational and agricultural programmes.
Please visit http://www.mercycorps.org.uk for further information on Mercy Corps.
We hope that you will be generous with your donations, even if you can only afford £1, this will really help us reach our target which we would love to exceed.
It goes without saying, that we also plan on having a great time on this amazing adventure while helping a worthwhile cause.
The car
A 1963 Land Rover that is so old, it is tax exempt! While the Land Rover is a legend off road and it can take quite a beating, make no mistake, the car will be slow and will have none of the comfort features you see in modern cars. We have fitted a stereo and some sporty seats, 2 essential items. Apart from that, the only other creature comfort is a pen and cup holder!
Thank you...
...for visiting our fund raising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online. Any donation is much appreciated and welcomed.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Mercy Corps will receive your money faster.
Many thanks for your support.
