Story
This June for pride month I’m working alongside a group of game developers to raise money for AKT - The Albert Kennedy Trust.
I’ve been extremely lucky to be surrounded by loving and accepting friends and family but not everyone has this level of support. Coming out, or being outed as LGBTQ+ can lead to young people being forced out by their families and made homeless. This is the unfortunate reality for 77% of the young people The Albert Kennedy Trust supports due to 24% of homeless young people identifying as LGBTQ+. AKT helps LGBTQ+ people aged 16-25 by providing safe accommodation, mentoring and access to life skills training, events and peer support networks.
As Brighton is known as the LGBTQ+ capital of the UK, I will be walking 50 miles (the distance from London to Brighton) over the course of pride month. As I work from home, I’m not as active as I’d like to be so this will push me to fit more exercise into my schedule for a good cause.
