Story
Can you imagine suddenly not being able to walk, and for weeks be scared as you don’t know why? And then because of this loose your livelihood and therefore your home?
This is my friend Ali’s, partner’s story:
Jim's life changed immeasurably in the space of 3 minutes back in May 2019, when he lost the use of his legs, his home and his livelihood in one fell swoop. Jim faced homelessness in December 2019 after some traumatic months in hospitals and rehabilitation centres, and was saved by a specially adapted temporary bungalow rented from Aspire in December 2019. The team at Aspire were life-savers, if it wasn't for the friendly voice at the end of the phone & guidance to navigate the system to get Jim the right support back in the community, we would have struggled to cope.Jim has had to relearn all the skills of daily life in order to live independently, everything from taking a shower to making a cup of tea. Simple tasks are much more challenging when you are doing them seated and don't have the same stability as before. There are some items of specialist equipment that we hope will improve Jim's quality of life even further - helping boost his fitness & immune system and help him manage his ongoing symptoms (neuropathic pain & involuntary muscle spasms) and to try and reduce the amount of medication he is on.A massive thank you in advance for any donation you are able to make to help Jim and other spinal cord injured people, your kindness and generosity is appreciated.
