Becky and Squidge climb the Three Peaks....by climbing a set of stairs.
On Sunday 23rd August Becky and Squidge (Louise) will be attempting to climb Ben Nevis, Snowdonia and Scafell Pike to raise money for SAMH. (Scottish Association for Mental Health) We have decided that due to the current situation with Covid we aren’t going to travel to the actual mountains so we are going to do it by climbing a set of stairs that are 10m in height. It is 3409m / 11,183ft in total and we have estimated It will take around 12 hours of climbing. It will be 3409m of climbing up and obviously 3409m of going down the stairs and our calf muscles have absolutely no idea what is about to hit them.
SAMH is the Scottish Association for Mental Health. Around since 1923, SAMH currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland providing mental health social care support, addictions and employment services, among others.
These services together with national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, physical activity and sport; inform SAMH’s policy and campaign work to influence positive change.
As PE teachers and hockey players we both know and hugely value the importance of physical activity for improving both physical and mental health and this is why we are choosing to do a (very) physical activity to raise some money and more importantly awareness of mental health issues and this fantastic charity.
Although Squidge is half the size of Becky and takes 3 steps to every one of Beckys, Becky’s dodgy ankle means they cancel out each other’s limitations and plan to do the whole thing together (whilst observing social distancing). We are hoping that we will be joined by various friends and teammates along the way.
