Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I'm running my first ever marathon in aid of Beat, the UKs leading charity for eating disorders. Many of you already know of my struggles with eating disorders, as well as anxiety and depression, from which I am now recovering and re-finding the joy in physical activity and the positive effect it promotes for your mental health. Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, and for me, running allows me to do exactly this, and to see how far I've come.
Beat have so much information on their website, with useful, practical advise on dealing with struggles in recovery such as weight gain, and how to push to get the treatment you deserve. Their free infoline to call is run entirely by donations. They campaign for better treatment to the government, and have ambassadors that give people suffering with eating disorders hope of recovery. Their website is full of information on all types of eating disorders, from binge eating disorder, bulimia, anorexia and EDNOS.
One in five people with anorexia end up dying from complications of being so underweight, or from taking their own lives, and Beat are forever fighting to reduce that number. Don't be 1 in 5, if you're struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating, don't wait to get treatment, reach out today.
I am passionate about raising awareness of eating disorders and breaking the stigma around people who struggle with them. They affect people of all different shapes, sizes, genders and age, and no one should feel their body type should stop them from getting treatment, as they are very much mental illnesses, with physical implications.
