Story
I am doing this challenge in memory of my darling Dad who we lost to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in Dec 2013, after a long and drawn out battle against this fatal, little known disease.
Watching Dad suffer, especially in the last 8 months before he passed away; being virtually housebound and relying on oxygen 24/7, yet still retaining his sense of humour and facing it with such bravery is my inspiration.
I have chosen this particular challenge as when Dad was first diagnosed in 2005 i ran it to help raise funds for The British Lung Foundation. He was there to support me at every step throughout my training and on the day. He brought me a celebratory cider at the end. I'll definitely be raising a glass to him when this is over.
As soon as I discovered Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis I knew they were the charity I wanted to support. If you could please take a moment to read about them as they are a new charity doing some fantastic work. One of the very few dedicated to IPF specifically.
Losing my Dad has been devastating, I miss him every day. For him, knowing his lungs were deteriorating was frightening and frustrating; as a family watching it happen, it was heartbreaking and the feeling of powerlessness overwhelming, I will never forget that part. I feel so fortunate to be able to do this, as a runner and his daughter. It's all for you Dad xxx
