Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2022 I joined Parkinson's UK as the Research Communications Officer. Before joining, I didn't really know that much about Parkinson's outside of what I'd learnt from my studies. Over the last year and a bit, I've had the absolute privilege of getting to know people living with Parkinson's, and am getting to understand more about the challenges they face every day.
Parkinson's is the fastest growing neurological condition, and we still don't have any treatments that can slow or stop its progression. But there is so much exciting research going on right now, not just looking towards these treatments but also ways that we can improve every day life for people with Parkinson's, today.
I am continually inspired by the people I meet and chat with through my job. I've met people who have run marathons while juggling a football, who are pushing and campaigning for change, who are working to improve representation in research, and so much more. I've heard stories about what people have lost, but also what they have found since being diagnosed with Parkinson's. In July I was lucky enough to attend the World Parkinson Congress in Barcelona, a whole week of inspiration, emotion and time to get to know members of the community. Hearing these stories made me want to take on a little more than just my job.
