Story
My mum (Gillian) passed away in January 2004 after a prolonged battle with Pancreatic cancer. She battled bravely and with treatment survived long enough to meet her first grandson Lucas. This awful disease took her away too early from her family who loved her and she never had the chance to meet and love her other grandchildren -Alex, Harry, Amber, Megan and most recently, Zachary.
It's his birth that has inspired me to want to honour my mum, set myself a personal challenge to run 26 miles (one off the bucket list) and at the same time raise money for Macmillan.
Mum wanted to pass away at home and without the support of the Macmillan nurses I'm not sure we'd have coped. The last days were dark and confusing but they helped us through this and ensured she passed away pain free and with dignity.
Isn't a marathon a bit easy for a sporty person? I can confirm the answer is a flat NO. Lugging a 6ft frame over miles and miles is tough and one of the hardest challenges I've faced. That said, time spent pounding the pavements has given me the chance to think about my mum and reflect on how lucky we were to have her for as long as we did and how I would give anything for her to have met my wonderful wife Steph and our son Zachary. Thinking of her as I run inspires me and I hope I make her proud if I can complete this challenge.
If you feel you could support me in this by donating then it'd really mean a lot to me.
