For a long time now the London Marathon has been way up there on my bucket list. It’s my very favourite day in London by a mile (or should that be 26.2 miles?!) The City is at its finest, friendliest and most positive best. I’ve been lucky enough to see it as a spectator for a few years and now cannot wait to experience it from the other side, as a runner.
To keep me going when the miles get tough, I will be running on behalf of Meningitis Research Foundation and supporting their vision of a world free from meningitis and septicaemia.
Meningitis has touched my family twice in the last two years. Both of my nephews were diagnosed with it within their first few days in the world. As we all know, sometimes these things can be overcome and sometimes they cannot and we have seen both sides of that coin, so I am running in memory of Freddy, who lost his battle. And in celebration of Harris, who won his.
To borrow from my Dad, “When you drop a stone into a puddle the ripples go ever outwards. Freddy’s life ripples go well, well beyond this room. The number of ripples will be endless.”
I like to think that the money I raise by running this marathon and supporting Meningitis Research Foundation will be another of those positive ripples, travelling ever outwards. So, thank you for reading this far and for your support - big or small, the ripples count.
