Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Like any other power-crazed modern woman, I’ve wanted to take part in the ‘Ladies Driving Challenge’ for years– an opportunity for us girlies to drive Fire Engines, High Performance Cars and other off-road vehicles. And only one thing has stood in my way – I’d never learned to drive! Until March this year of course, when I passed my driving test thanks to the incredible patience and calm nature of my delightful driving instructor at BSM (thanks Kev!), who I without doubt tortured for several months of his life. So, on the 24th May I will be making my way to Pembrey Race Circuit, as pretty much a new driver, to experience what will be I’m sure a thrilling and challenging event!
More importantly than sitting in the hot seat of such powerful vehicles is the opportunity to show support for a charity that means a great deal to me and is very close to my heart. Amongst other good work, The Fire Fighters Charity offers residential therapy for injured fire service personnel. Every 30 seconds in the UK, fire fighters are called to an incident. Just like 27 years ago when the Fire Service were called to a house fire in Cardiff to rescue an injured baby girl who was trapped in an upstairs bedroom. Every day I’m reminded that I was rescued from that house and lived to tell the tale because someone else put their life on the line. Despite high levels of training and safety precautions, in the drive to protect and save human life, physical and emotional injuries within the Fire Service are inevitable. The Fire Fighters Charity is an amazing charity that helps to pick up the pieces for Fire Fighters and their families, and assists over 11,000 individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.
Please help me to support this great cause by sponsoring me for this event. I know we’re in the throws of the recession and the credit-crunch, and this is a bit of a big ask….but if everyone who reads this page donates at least £1, then I would reach my target in no time. Thanks for visiting my fundraising page,
Best wishes,
