Story
Hi, I am Becca and I am doing a skydive to raise money for Beat.
Beat is a charity that helps people suffering from eating disorders get from a place of suffering into recovery. They also help and support family and friends through equipping them with skills and advice so that their loved one can recover with the best help possible whilst also looking after themselves. Beats Mission is to "end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders."
Eating disorders are serious illnesses with the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Without help and intervention they can cause serious harm and damage and can be fatal.
I was diagnosed with Anorexia near the end of 2020 after suffering for a few years. After getting very ill, I reluctantly decided to accept help. With the help of Beat my family were able to get a better and deeper understanding of my illness and they provided them with the support they needed at the time. Through this my family were able to help me through recovery in a much more knowledgeable way. Eating disorders are widely misunderstood, even by family members. Beat helps to show what they are actually like which benefits the sufferers’ carers massively in aiding them in their recovery. Without beat, my family wouldn’t have been able to get the level of understanding that they did!
Beat are also helping to get rid of the 'stigma' around eating disorders through spreading information and providing resources. From having anorexia firsthand, it is definitely not like what the media makes it out to be and I know that without the help and support me and my family received I would not be here today.
With eating disorders constantly on the rise, services are overwhelmed and therefore people with eating disorders are not getting the help they need quick enough. But Beat is helping to improve this! They provide emergency help lines, training, support groups, information pages and much more.
This is why I am raising money for beat because I know they make a difference!
Any donation will help to make a difference, thank you for helping to raise awareness and beat the stigma.
