Story
Every year, National Eating Disorder Awareness Week falls around the same time as my birthday! If you haven’t heard me talk about it before, I am a survivor of an eating disorder. My eating disorder started when I was around 14, I began recovery when i was around 20/21 and I’ve been in recovery since! Currently I’m doing really well, but I will always say that I’m in recovery because recovery, to me, isn’t something with an end date. It’s something I will continue to fight for for my whole life.
This year, the theme of NEDA Week is “every body has a seat at the table”, which focuses on how marginalized communities are underrepresented and continue to have less access to recovery help and resources. It’s important to recognize that and start fighting to raise awareness and challenge systemic biases. This is such an important theme and I’m so glad NEDA is bringing attention to it, especially after the last year we’ve had. They’ll be sharing stories from people who tend to be underrepresented within the eating disorder recovery community this week on their instagram!
Please join me in donating to NEDA this year for my birthday- the best present I could ask for, always.
