Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Amy and I am 20 years old. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in July 2012, when I was 7 years old. I had intense chemotherapy for 7 months. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of time in hospital and missed a lot of school. I was on maintenance chemotherapy treatment for 1 year and 8 months. The treatment had some horrible side effects. I finished my treatment in October 2014 and I am now in remission. I want to continue my fight to help others who are diagnosed with a blood cancer.
Many people have helped me raise funds over the years for Blood Cancer UK. I held a fund raising ceilidh event and 'Team Amy' also raised funds walking the Kiltwalk in 2014 . We did the Kiltwalk again in 2015 and 2016. I also teamed up with Sam Heughan from Outlander and his 'My Peak Challenge'. See the link below to our video together. My Peak Challenge was to raise £14,000 on my page by May 2016! I also challenged myself to do a backwards tumble turn at swimming! I met these challenges and raised over £16,000. Team Amy did the Kiltwalk again in 2017 and raised £2,870! In 2018 Team Amy raised £3,676.80 doing the Glasgow Kiltwalk and £2,225 in 2019. I also sang at Christmas Carol concerts for Blood Cancer UK in 2018 and 2019 and at the online concert of 2020.
I am determined to keep fundraising to help others. Research is vital to discover the cause of blood cancers and find the best treatment with the least amount of side effects.
Although cure rates are getting better, they are not 100% and that is what I want for everyone diagnosed with a blood cancer!
I hope you will support me in fundraising to 'beat blood cancer'!
