Story
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
my name is Dionne, I am a photographer and drummer from Manchester, and i am raising 50k by photographing 50 amazing drummers from different genres
I started this project to make a difference to the lives of men who are diagnosed with Urogenital cancers, including testicular and prostate.
In 2001 my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer and consequently went through surgery and radiotherapy treatments at the Christie Hospital, Manchester. After being in remission for 2 years, he was diagnosed with another testicular tumour, unrelated to the previous one and more agressive. This meant further surgery and radiotherapy at the Christie Hospital, which luckily is on our doorstep in Manchester.
We will always be grateful to the Christie for the treatment my husband received, and advising on the after effects of this type of cancer. Unfortunately not all cases are as straightforward as ours, with some men experiencing more serious outcomes, depending on how advanced their particular cancer is.
Money raised by the beat it project will contribute towards setting up a Men's cancer live tissue biobank at the Manchester Cancer research centre.
This will contain samples of tissue collected over a period of time from men who were treated at the christie for urological cancers. Detailed research can then be carried out into the specific causes and treatments for these cancers.
thanks for supporting this great cause!
