Story
Who Are We?
We are a CrossFit team of four taking on the Battle Cancer Fitness Challenge in London on October 15th 2023. We are members of the Bearwalden CrossFit gym based in Saffron Walden, Essex. As a gym community, we are more than just a group of people working out in the same space. Collectively, we support, motivate, and encourage each other, and we believe that we are stronger together.
Why Are We Fundraising?
In July 2022, our fellow Bearwalden member Jo Hughes received
the devastating news that her son Oti had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) at 17months old. Oti has since undergone chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, and throughout his treatment has shown the bravery of a real superhero in his fight against the disease. The Hughes’ family have endured this past year with incredible strength and determination, whilst themselves raising awareness and funds for others on a similar journey.
What Are We Doing?
Battle Cancer is a global fitness event that challenges teams
to an endurance test of 5 x intense 10-minute workouts over the space of 2.5 hours. The workouts are designed to test all aspects of fitness including strength, power, and agility. Each team will be scored on a leader board with an extra 1point for every £1 we raise. This is where we need your help!
What Is Our Cause?
We would be grateful for your support in raising money for
the Dear Toby Trust, a charity that works closely with Great Ormond Street to fund paediatric cancer care and research in the UK. The Dear Toby Trust was established in 2017, in memory of Toby Hambrook-Skinner who passed away at 7 months old after an epic battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
