Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are running the Gatwick Half Marathon on the 13th May 2018 to raise money to help build the Matt Cox Pavilion in memory of our dear friend Matthew Cox (Coxy). We were meant to run the Bath Half but it got cancelled & we’re not giving up - we’re doing this, for Matt.
This is a big personal challenge for us as we have never run this distance before, let alone anything close to it. Inspired by the overwhelming support we felt compelled to give a half marathon ‘a go’. The biggest inspiration however is Coxy himself, his approach to life, his humour and his drive.
‘On Monday 24th August 2015, I was told that my close friend Matt had passed. I don't have the right words to describe how special he was to so many people but I want to express how much of an impact Coxy has made on my life.
Coxy was the most kind, caring and loving man. Many people have said the word 'gentleman'. Nothing could describe him better, from opening up doors to drinking gin and all the bits in between, he was a true gentleman. I have so many wonderful memories that I will cherish forever like playing girls vs boys at Estcots Primary School (where the boys always said that they were the catchers last) to walking around East London with our families doing the Jack the Ripper tour. He was incredible on the piano and I feel so blessed that I could listen to him play, and that his videos are still viral on youtube so that the whole world can experience his talent. How someone could listen to a tune and then recreate it just from hearing is a true gift. Matt was and always will be adored by my family, he put a smile on our faces and always made us laugh.’ Kirsty
