Story
We are all saddened and shocked by the sudden demise of our beloved father, Dr Chandra Kumar Laksamba. He passed away at Frimley Park Hospital on January 26, 2021 due to a stroke while receiving treatment for COVID-19. Never in our wildest dreams had we thought this day would come. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather and we are overwhelmed with grief as we come to terms with his absence in our lives. He was taken away from us too soon.
Dr. Laksamba dedicated his life’s work to bringing attention to the Nepali community in the UK. He was the founding member of Centre for Nepal Studies and he coordinated CNSUK’s ‘Large-scale Survey’ on Nepalis Living in the UK between 2006 and 2007. He was a researcher at the University of Oxford and an Examiner of the University of Cambridge International Examinations. Dr. Laksamba actively worked towards amplifying the demands of the Gurkha community through his work as a Gurkhas pensions expert and as an advisor on the British Gurkhas Pensions Case. He worked closely with several Nepali organisations such as Taplejung Society UK, KYC UK, GAESO, BGWS to name a few. He was a much-loved member of the society and was a mentor to many young Nepalis pursuing academic careers as an Adjunct Professor and Faculty Course Coordinator of Social Sciences at the Nepal Open University (NOU). He was also a Senate Member of Lumbini Buddhist University. We are extremely proud of the legacy he has left behind.
We have been overwhelmed by all the messages, emails, phone calls and letters of love and support during this difficult time. It has made us realise that it is not just us, his immediate family, grieving his loss. Instead, we are joined by the entire community as we try to come to
peace with his passing.
Due to the pandemic, in lieu of flowers, we kindly request you to donate to COVID-19 Support run by Frimley Health Charity. This charity provides support for staff at Frimley Park Hospital where Dr. Chandra Kumar Laksamba was provided with excellent care. We hope that your contributions can help the hospital better serve the needs of the community in these challenging times.
