Story
I am competing in my first sailing race which is a world wide race with thousands of others taking part, to raise money for GB Olympic sailor Andrew Simpson’s charity set up after he died in a tragic sailing accident. The money raised will go towards helping disadvantaged children have the opportunity to have a go at sailing, a sport which is not accessible to many poorer families.
The Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF) was inspired by Olympic Gold and Silver medalist Andrew Bart Simpson MBE. Their mission is to transform lives through sailing.Absolutely everything the ASF does is driven by their belief that all young people have the ability to excel and succeed in life and work. They believe that the challenges of sailing and watersports do this by promoting health and well-being whilst also building essential life skills. These skills then enable young people to progress through education and into work. Bart's Bash is the flagship fundraising event for the ASF, connecting sailing communities around the world. We/I am taking part in Bart's Bash 2021 to support young people from all backgrounds, enabling them to experience sailing, gain qualifications, develop key life skills and transform their lives through sailing.
