Story
2020 is the 25th anniversary of Bartletts Residential Home in Stone, Buckinghamshire.
We have in our care, a very special person called Hilda who is 103 years old! When we spoke to her about the anniversary, she said she would like to do something to mark the occasion. Inspired by Captain Tom Moore, she offered to try and walk 103 laps of the Home and raise £1000 for the Alzheimer’s Society. Sadly, her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and she nursed him for several years before he passed away in 2001. She’s aiming to walk 3 laps of the Home per day, a distant of roughly a 10th of a mile. The physical challenge she has set herself is quite remarkable, not least because of her age, but also because she only has 1 hip! She had a major operation 13 years ago which left her disabled and only able to walk with the aid of a frame.
Hilda is the matriarch of the Duncombe family; mother of 3, grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 11 at the last count. Due to the Corona virus and the restrictions of social distancing, they will be unable to cheer her on in person but, rest assured, they will be “with her” every step of the way.
