Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

    Hi

On the 17th of April I will be running over 26 miles at the Virgin London Marathon to raise money for Martin House Children's Hospice.

I am very fortunate to have secured one of only three available places that Martin House have been allocated for this event and I am honoured to have been chosen over many other applicants.

Martin House relies almost entirely on donations and fund-raising to raise around £3.9 million a year to provide vital care and support for so many local children and their families. It is only through the kind support of so many that they're able to provide these services.

The impact on a family in which there is a child with a life limiting illness is difficult to imagine, but Martin House are committed to caring for children and their families in a way which is as flexible as possible; being aware of medical needs, social, emotional, psychological needs and spiritual support.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Martin House Hospice for Children and Young People gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Any donation, however small will be gratefully received, but in order to achieve (or exceed) my personal target of £5000 - if you or your company is interested in making a sizeable donation, I would be more than happy to put myself at you disposal in terms of any publicity or have your company logo on my running shirt.

Your support for Martin House Children's Hospice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME AND WHY I'M DOING THIS

I am a 38 year old guy who lives in Harrogate with my partner of 14 years Sue, & our son Callum.

Over recent years, I have done very little in the way of excercise and have set myself this challenge to help me stop smoking, get fitter and raise some money for a charity that is dear to my heart.

I’ve done a number of fundraising activities for Martin House in the past; including an abseil down the side of the Royal Armories in Leeds. Last year I decided to run the Great North Run for Martin House and am pleased to say I completed it successfully.

I have never run a Marathon before and given that 13.1 miles  was  tough at times; 26.2 miles is certainly not going to be a walk in the park. I have  been busy training though and am putting in the miles on the treadmill and on the road; in fact I've recently completed several half marathons (+) and 20 mile runs, and whilst I may not break any records, I'm confident that I'll get to the finish line.

I have quit smoking and have not touched a cigarette since before Christmas

Many thanks for your support everyone
