Story
My Dad’s Story.
My dad had battled with severe eczema all his life. The medication my Dad took made him at a very high risk of getting skin cancer, he followed the medical advice strictly. Unfortunately after about ten years my Dad did get skin cancer, at first it was just a small patch here and there. My Dad had many small operations to have the cancer removed, he never complained once. Then after about six to seven years of minor operations we discovered that the cancer had changed, it was now attacking my Dad from the inside as well. At this point my Dad had to decide if he was strong enough to undergo this massive twelve hour operation or just have it treated to buy him some more time. Anyone that was lucky enough to have met my Dad will know, he was going for the twelve hour operation. This operation nearly killed him and after many many months he finally started to recover. My Dad would never look the same again, however he picked himself up again and carried on. He always found strength from somewhere, our whole family was amazed by how well he coped. A year later my Dad was given the all clear!!! Free of cancer !!! We had a party and for the next few months our family relaxed. Our happiness was short lived as the cancer had returned and this time there was no offer of operating on my Dad, he had nothing left to cut away. At this point any normal person would have curled up in self pity but not my Dad. He then started planning for us all, calling family meetings and making sure everything was sorted for every single one of us. Once my Dad was happy that we all knew what to do he finally rested and within a few weeks he passed away. I can honestly say that the pain I’ve felt over the last few months has been unbearable and only now do feel ready to even talk about it.
I know that growing whatever bit of hair I actually have left isn’t going to change the world. It was only suggested as a joke because I haven’t had a single hair on my head for 25 years, it’s only been two weeks and I hate it already. It is only the start of a long fund raising journey for me. Everyone can make a difference if we try.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and a massive thank you to the people that have already sponsored me. If you haven’t done it yet I’ll be coming for you lol.
I will post a picture every month so you can all have a good laugh at me.
Thank you 👍🏻
