We are going to be climbing Mount kilimanjaro to raise funds and awareness for Rebecca's Heart Ebsteins Anomaly Trust. Rebecca’s Rainbow Heart Ebstein’s Anomaly Trust was formed in 2010 and is based in Aberdeen. The charity was inspired by Rebecca, a little girl from Aberdeen who was born with Ebstein’s Anomaly, a life threatening heart defect. In 2010, Rebecca and her parents had to travel to USA where she underwent lifesaving heart surgery which is not yet available in the UK. The Trust aims to sponsor specialists from America to come to, Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children to carry out this life saving procedure on other Scottish children. All children’s heart surgery in Scotland is carried out in Glasgow. A world renowned Surgeon from Boston USA has also agreed to help train Scottish surgeons in this procedure. The Trust is also trying to raise money to pay for a children’s heart nurse for the Grampian area. Scotland has just 4FTE children’s heart nurses, all of whom are based in Glasgow. The charity is run entirely by volunteers and every penny raised goes directly towards helping cardiac children in Scotland.
