Story
Barlestone C of E Primary School Junior Leadership team have designed a fundraising event to support the charity Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG). The event is a “virtual walk to Skegness” that will be for the whole school and run for the last few weeks of this term. We will complete the walk in school and all classes will contribute to the 105 mile distance.
We have a very special reason why the CCLG charity has been chosen. Two of our pupils and their family have had a lot of support from them, as in July 2020 when he was only 2 years old, Katie and Daniel’s little brother Jack was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer called leukaemia.
He spent the next 6 months in and out of hospital taking some very strong medication called chemotherapy which kills the fast growing cells in his body that are causing his illness. This made Jack’s hair fall out and made him very poorly. However, Jack responded very quickly and within 1 month, he was in remission which means that the doctors can’t detect the illness anymore! However, Jack will have to be on chemotherapy until January 2024 to make sure that the illness doesn’t come back.
CCLG was one of the many wonderful charities out there who supported Katie and Daniel’s family during what was an awful time for them. Which is why Barlestone C of E Primary School would like to
support them back by doing a fundraising event.
All proceeds to go to the charity CCLG who fund research into childhood cancer with the aim to cure as many children as possible with kinder treatments, allowing them to live happy, healthy and
independent lives after a cancer diagnosis.
