Story
Barbara Thomas suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2010 and was taken to the Heath hospital in Cardiff for emergency treatment where she spent 3 months.
Barbara was then transferred to the Neuro Rehabilitation Unit in Neath Port Talbot Hospital where Barbara continues to receive treatment from the dedicated team.
Barbara wishes to complete this challenge to say thank you to the ward for everything they have done for her and continue to do so. She says “I feel strong enough to give back a little something to the ward for everything they have done for me”
The walk will start at 11am on Sunday 12th March 2023 at Bar Gallios (130 Victoria Rd, Port Talbot SA12 6AY). Barbara will then walk the length of the sea front, and hopefully back, if she's feeling well enough to do so.
Barbara has already rallied up fantastic support but welcomes everyone to join her to take on this challenge... bring the kids, scooters, bikes, dogs and join in to cheer on this amazing woman!
Swansea Bay University Health Board:
"Our Neuro Rehabilitation occupational therapists rehabilitate adults of different ages who have suffered brain damage. We carry out rehabilitation to allow patients to re-engage in everyday tasks that many of us take for granted like getting dressed, shopping, feeding, caring for dependants, working, enjoying hobbies or socialising. We provide interventions which are focused around the patient which may include education session, improving skills, learning new strategies and training patients in the use of adaptive equipment to help the patients engage with these aforementioned meaningful activities"
All money raised from this challenge will be credited to Neath Port Talbot Hospital Neuro Rehab Patients & Staff Fund YN21
