Event: London Landmarks Half Marathon 2023, on 2 April 2023
In memory of Sarah Watson
Our amazing team of 20 runners are coming together for this fantastic event to raise funds to drive forward the healthcare improvements that will shape a better, fairer future for East London and beyond.

Story

Sarah (aka Watson) was the beating heart of our netball club. She was the queen of organisation, forever bossing us about and keeping us on our toes. But Watson was more than netball to us, she was our best friend and we loved her.

In November 2020 Sarah was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. She underwent a gruelling treatment programme including weekly chemo, surgery and radiotherapy after which she was given the all clear. Sadly in April 2022 Sarah found out that her cancer had returned. It had come back with a vengeance and was so aggressive, after just 5 weeks she passed away on 22nd May.

Watson always had such strength and determination. In March 2021 she persuaded a team of netballers to run 100k challenge, taking on the challenge herself despite being in active chemotherapy. On and off the netball court she was full of inspirational quotes 'Unless you puke, faint or die, keep going', 'Life is tough darling, but so are you', 'Run if you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must but never stop'.

She was also determined to get on a trial putting herself through lots of tests and scans but sadly it was too late. It was this determination that brought her to St Barts.

Barts Charity are supporting the "Barts 900" campaign. The campaign is looking to fund 2 medical centres, one of which is a dedicated Breast Care Centre at St Barts. This new Centre will be a state of the art facility and will bring together surgery and post-surgery care in one place, improving every stage of the patient experience. As well as improving breast cancer outcomes for patients today, it will also help make a significant contribution to global research, saving lives for generations.

Watson was our wing woman, nicknamed our gang the 'Fab Four' and made a point of always being 'here if you need'. None of us like running but on 2nd April 2023, we will be taking on the challenge of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon. In honour of Watson we will 'run if we can, walk if we have to, crawl if we must but we won't stop!'

Thank you so much for donating whatever you can, it really will make a difference.
