A Starting Block is the person, place or moment that inspired you to become who you are today. Not every young person has the opportunity or inspiration to unlock their potential and find their Starting Block in life.
There is a real team emphasis in the Baker Mallett Sheffield office, led by Andrew Harrison. When growing up, Andrew was part of the Scouting association and with this spent a huge amount of time in the great outdoors and in particular the Peak District, as part of a team enjoying activities and challenges.
A greatly respected man named Frank Walton was Andrew’s Scout Leader and recently Andrew was shocked to hear of his sudden passing. Andrew’s ethos is team building and this reflects massively in the office, with Andrew reflecting a lot of the morals and team building ethos with thanks to Frank and the scouts. With new staff members joining the team it only felt right that for their Starting Blocks Challenge Andrew would lead them on a challenge in the Peak District where he has strong roots where a team of 5 are looking to take shifts through the day (and night if required) to cycle roughly 600k on the Monsal trail on Friday 10th June.
I'm taking part in the Starting Blocks Challenge to help Dame Kelly Holmes Trust change what's possible for those young people who are facing challenges in their everyday lives.
The Trust works with world-class athletes who use their experience at the highest levels of sport to mentor young people. Over the next ten years the Trust aims to support 10,000 young people through programmes designed to improve their wellbeing, help them build healthy relationships and establish the confidence, self-esteem and resilience they need to achieve in education, work and life.
Please sponsor me on my challenge and join me in supporting the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
