Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Following on from last years success of the Welsh 3 Peaks, Baines Simmons are walking the National 3 Peaks (Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis) at the end of May 2010.
The routes chosen however are not the normal tracks chosen by many - instead we have chosen more technical routes to not only challenge those taking part but to also ensure the event is memorable. We aim to raise as much as we can for Help for Heroes hence no 'target' as such has been allocated. All money raised will go to the charity - all costs for the event are being covered personally.
The challenge will comprise...
Snowdon (the hard way) - distance 6.75 miles (11 km), ascent/descent 3,680 ft (1,100 m)
Scafell (the hard way) - distance 10.06 miles (16 km), ascent/descent 3,700 ft (1,120 m)
Ben Nevis (the hard way) - distance 11.58 miles (19 km), ascent/descent 5,527 ft (1,675 m)
TOTAL - (3 Peaks the hard way) - distance 29 miles (46 km), ascent descent 12,870 ft (3,900 m)
To put this in perspective on the total figures, these represent a greater effort than climbing Mont Blanc (highest mountain in Europe at 4,810 m), which is usually climbed from Chamonix (1,035 m): meaning an ascent/descent of 3,775 m, compared to our 3,900 m.
Add to this the 'challenge' of the driving which will be undertaken by members of the team and plays an equally valuable part in the whole weekend:
Bangor to The Lakes : 251 miles (5 hours 44 mins)
The Lakes to Ben Nevis : 220 miles (4 hours 22 mins)
