Story
✨ This summer, I'll be joining Maa in going to Bangladesh ✈️ as part of the JourneyMaa 2022 Team in order to support mothers in health camps 🏥 and educating young women on topics 👩🏻🏫 related to female hygiene. We'll be visiting different areas in Sylhet, including Moulvibazar, Balagonj and Hobigonj, to support the community there. ✨
For me, JourneyMaa was an initiative I heard of when I was only 16 years old, and it's a privilege having been given this opportunity now as a Medical Student 👩🏻⚕️ as I know it will help to shape my mind 🧠 when it comes to treating my future patients in sha Allah, and inspire me towards making a change throughout my time in Medical School and after, as a professional... and what better place to give back to than back home?! 🤩🇧🇩
I'll be fundraising 💰 from now up until we fly out, and would really appreciate any donations (and dua's 🤲 too!). It is a big task, but Alhamdulillah not one I haven't completed before... but I'm hoping to fundraise through different initiatives and challenges! (And i'm sure my close friends and family still remember the shock 😳 they had when I said I'd be cycling from Cambridge to London 🚴) ... Well I've cycled, I've walked, and now I'm walking again! The first thing I'll be taking part in is the Annual Maa hike - this year at Peak District 🗻 I'm currently fundraising throughout MaaMonth with the support of Imperial's Banglasoc 🐯 and will continue fundraising throughout Ramadhan too🌙 !
But for now... It's MaaMonth - but what is MaaMonth? MaaMonth was started in 2018 as a national initiative every February to raise money and allow Maa to continue the work we do to support mothers. Universities across the UK compete against each other to raise the most money for Maa within one month and to be crowned MaaMonth Champion! In 2021 we raised £21,650 with 28 universities taking part. This year we have over 30 universities on board including some from outside the UK! The money raised provides crucial funding for Maa to continue running our clinics in rural areas of Bangladesh. We are also piloting our new healthcare app, MaaConnect, with our MedTech specialists in India. We have also started expanding our work internationally, beginning with Afghanistan - by helping Afghan mothers through The Widow Project (TWP).£25 can support a mother for a month£250 can support a mother for the whole pregnancy Donate to make a difference to a mother's life!#MaaMonth2022 #GoingGlobal
