Story
The inaugural Studio Falkland Lodge Community Celebration Concert will be raising money for Cancer Care Map. This charity is very close to the heart of our singing teacher and friend Frazer Scott, and he is proud to be one of their Ambassadors.
Frazer was diagnosed with cancer in 2014. At the time, he was a student on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, as well as performing in operas and doing voiceover work and adverts. Chemotherapy resulted in Frazer losing his voice and he had to rebuild his life. He was being treated at Guys and St Thomas’ where Dimbleby Cancer Care was based, an organisation set up by the Dimbleby family.
Through Dimbleby Cancer Care, Frazer was able to access different complementary therapies like reiki, aromatherapy, massage and mindfulness sessions, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. These helped Frazer complete his course of chemotherapy, something he felt was tougher than the cancer diagnosis itself. Frazer has continued his connection with Dimbleby Cancer Care and the vital work they do.
In 2019, Dimbleby Cancer Care launched Cancer Care Map (www.cancercaremap.org). This is a simple, online resource that aims to help you find cancer support services in your local area, wherever you are in the UK. Prior to launch, research had shown that there was a significant lack of awareness of the thousands of support and advice services available following a cancer diagnosis. Cancer Care Map now provides the UK’s only comprehensive directory of cancer-related services for those living with cancer and to their friends and family, carers and clinicians. The site provides practical help like advice on how to get financial aid, alongside emotional, medical and health and wellbeing support.
Cancer Care Map is a small team and its main focus is regularly checking and updating information on the website so when someone searches for support in their local area, they can trust the information they find. Our fundraising will go towards this. It will also help to make sure everyone in the UK living with or affected by cancer knows that Cancer Care Map is there to help them.
Thank you for reading and supporting our fundraising initiative.
