Story
Ayrshire College is taking part in Row Britannia 2020, a Sport Relief challenge for UK colleges and universities.
The challenge is an ambitious one – we need to row a total of 2020 miles (that’s 3,251 kilometres), and raise a total of £3,000 by Friday 13 March.
But if we work together, we can do this! We want as many students and staff members as possible to take part. From the week commencing Monday 13 January, there will be two rowing machines stationed at each campus.
Prizes are on offer to the students and teams who bring in the biggest donations and clock the most miles!
Here’s how you can get involved:
Get sponsored for a minimum of £2 by a friend/colleague/yourself and get on the rowing machine at your campus. Contribute as many metres or miles as you can and your name will be added to the ‘Ayrshire Rowing Heroes’ page that will be displayed on our website.
Row as a class group or sign up as a staff team with a sponsorship of £30 and support each other through the rowing (and compete against other teams!).
You can also contribute to the total in your local gym or at home if you’re fortunate enough to have a rowing machine, just be sure to upload your photo and distance rowed using the hashtag #RowBritanniaAyrshire on social media. Those of us who are camera shy can also use the sign-up sheet next to the machines in the college to record your distances.
Our £3,000 donation will go to Sport Relief and will be distributed between mental health charities. Donations will be accepted through a JustGiving page that will be set up in the New Year (look out for a further email with this link) and on campus next to the rowing machines.
Happy rowing!
