Story
Glenn Rose, my father, passed away on June 29th 2020 after over 5 months in hospital dealing with the complications of cancer surgery. Much of this time was spent on ITU. His private cremation is July 29th 2020 - he did not want money wasted on flowers. He was a member of Amnesty International and believed in the power of words and writing - so it’s a fitting tribute to donate to this cause instead of floral tributes.
He touched many lives far and wide with his enthusiasm for music and poetry. Please share your memories with us as it will bring great comfort to his parents who survive him.
And in his own words...
“I have most things I need, or even want. Except a world free from poverty, disease, famine. And persecution.
Amnesty supports people who rarely make it to our front pages - people who are targetted as a danger, or simply inconvenient to those in power. They are denied human rights and liberty: their health, even their lives are at risk in a deliberate attack on fundamental human dignity.
I know. Poverty, disease, famine - none of those are exactly conducive to dignity. But they are usually more visible, even to our (generally, or comparatively) more comfortable eyes. They are also more often unintended consequences - even if consequence of the heedlessness, stupidity or ignorance of Those With Power. Persecution, though, is entirely premeditated, calculated, deliberate. And it's happening across the world, in countries right through the alphabet to 'Zimbabwe'.
So join me, won't you, in supporting the work of Amnesty International.”
Thank you.
