Story
Well hello.. We are volunteers at the Atlantic Whale Foundation who have created a new project 'The AWF Dragon fly project' who are going to go to Sierra Leone in July 2012 to create a centre called 'A place for women'. This centre will avail women the opportunity to relax, and uncover hidden talents which they can use to set up businesses giving them the opportunity to gain independence through our microfinancing initiatives. We as young passionate volunteers want to explore and understand their culture and gain knowledge from this so that we can be inspired by their experiences. The centre will provide all of the necessary material, equipment and opportunites such as a creative arts resource centre, business and office room and a crèche for any of those women who have children. We are not going into this village to change values or traditions in place but learn and collaborate with the local people to give opportunites. These are women who need the funding but have the skill and drive to persue their dreams. Everyone has a mother, sister, aunty, friend or a female influence in their lives and we feel that its essential that we give these women around the world a sense of belief through the creation of this centre. So if you feel that these woman deserve a chance please give whatever you can because it all adds up. The main plan is that once the first centre is set up in Sierra Leone, a domino effect will be created and further centres will be formed such as in Ghana, Vietnam and our other project bases globally. If you would like more information on this project or if you want to volunteer, just contact the team! Thank you :)
