Story

Michael & Leigh will be running the London Marathon 2022, as well as holding other charity events, to fundraise for CRY - Cardiac Risk in the Young, to ensure as much awareness and funds can be made available as possible.

MESSAGE FROM MICHAEL:

I know that everyone who knows me here knows that I like to run the occasional marathon or two… or three… or four… but very rarely do I run for charity.

Some of you may also be aware, that my family and I recently had the most heart breaking and devastating news of our lives that my younger cousin, Alfie Nunn, suddenly collapsed whilst playing football in Dubai and sadly passed away at the end of January.  Tragically, he was only 35 years of age and was also due to be celebrating his marriage in July 2022 after the pandemic cancelled both his and his lovely wife Becky’s wedding plans in both 2020 and 2021.

As there was only six weeks between us, growing up Alfie and I were inseparable as children and he was so much more than a cousin to me, being more like a brother as well as the godfather to one of our three sons.  His positivity, humour, laughter, kindness and the love he had for all his family was incomparable and his passing has left a huge hole in our family that simply cannot be filled, and we will continue to miss him every day.  As mentioned above, I do not normally run events for charities, but due to what happened to Alfie, my wife Leigh and I will be taking part in the London Marathon 2022 in October and raising funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in his memory.  This will be only the second time that Leigh has run the 26.2 miles and will be my 32nd time over the distance.

If anyone would like to contribute to our challenge, we would be so very grateful. We would like to thank all those in advance who kindly do so.  You can also find out more about the amazing work CRY does by clicking below.

Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions. See how your support can help by visiting www.c-r-y.org.uk .
