Story
Just before Christmas 2020, I’ve got the news that we all dread to hear... the dreaded C word was brought up.
I went to my GP for routine blood tests to see if I was going through the menopause or perimenopause! I asked for blood tests because the symptoms I had were synonymous with menopause. Bloating extreme pain with periods, heavy periods, abdominal pain, dizziness and even passing out at menstruation. My blood tests came back abnormal and the doctor announced Suspected Ovarian Cancer. The news of course was devastating and I proceeded on a two week urgent pathway for follow-up tests, ultrasounds and a MRI. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there has been massive delays in screening and follow-up tests....to cut a very long story short, I’m about to have either a full hysterectomy or just the removal of polyps and cyst, ovary and tube. I’ll then find out if they are malignant or benign. It’s been a long and very frustrating few months but I’m full of positivity and hope.
I’m doing this fundraiser for Eve appeal to bring awareness to get checked!! I had to persist with the doctors to do the blood tests because I knew something wasn’t right. They messed my bloods and results up several times, without me knowing. Listen to your body, and push for answers.
The Eve Appeal is the UKs leading gynaecological cancer charity. We fund life-saving research and raise awareness of the five gynaecological cancers: womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal.Throughout May, we want everyone to Get Lippy and Loud about gynae health to help smash taboos, encourage open and honest conversations, raise awareness of signs and symptoms and fund life-saving research as well as our Ask Eve service. By making a donation, you can help to do just that. You can help stop gynaecological cancers before they start. Thank you much.
