Story

Donate today and help older people in East Sussex!

Age UK East Sussex are receiving more than 150 calls a day from distressed older people without enough food in the house and who are anxious, alone and afraid. In a response to this we have created our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to provide much needed support to the most vulnerable members of our community. We are offering a telephone befriending service and a shopping/prescription service. We cannot deliver these vital services without the support of our volunteers and the generous donations that we are receiving from
members of the public.

Donate today and help older people in East Sussex!

Age UK East Sussex is at the forefront of supporting older people in the county. As an independent charity, responsible for raising our own funds, your continued support and donations during these difficult times are helping us keep vulnerable older people safe and well.

Help us make sure we can provide the help they need by supporting our emergency appeal to raise £10,000 to enable us to support all Older People in need in East Sussex! There are 138,000 older people in East Sussex over the age of 65 + our coastal towns such as Eastbourne, Bexhill and Rye have the highest proportion of people aged 65 – 84 years. Following Government advice East Sussex residents are being told to stay at home, this includes the elderly and vulnerable. Over a quarter of these older people live alone, we know we need to do more to make sure our older community stay safe and well at this time.

We are receiving more than 150 calls a day from distressed older people who don't have enough food in the house or are anxious and alone. In a response to this we have created our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to provide much needed support to the most vulnerable members of our community. We are offering a telephone befriending service and a shopping/prescription service.

Every penny donated will help us deliver the increased care and support needed to keep older people safe and well.
Most supermarkets are no longer taking new online accounts and there are no delivery slots available. We have been reassured that this will change over the coming weeks - we have over 100 clients registered with us who are currently unable to secure a delivery slot. This means they and many others are reliant on our shopping and prescription CERT service.

Age UK East Sussex is at the forefront of supporting older people in the County. As an independent charity, responsible for raising our own funds, your continued support and donations during these difficult times are critical in helping us support the most vulnerable. All our staff and volunteers are working hard during these challenging times to alleviate the impact of Coronavirus on older people in East Sussex, who undoubtedly are living in fear.

Your support at this critical time is extremely valuable and greatly appreciated. Every penny donated will help us deliver the increased care and support needed to keep older people safe.

Thank you for your support #ProudtobeAUKES #CERT
