My cousin/uncle/friend - Dhirubhai Thakrar sadly passed away in 2020. He was a kind, generous and warm man who loved to laugh and always full of energy.
I only found out very recently that he suffered from Macular Degenaration. My mum suffers from the same problem. It is an age related issue affecting many people. Sadly, (in my opinion) it is not "high profile" - I certainly knew nothing about it until my mum was affected by it.
MCD is a hidden danger that affects many older people. The loss of vision does make life more challenging. and every day tasks become difficult or impossible.
In memory of DDT (as he was fondly known), we would love to raise £5,000 for the Macular Society to help with research and support others who might be suffering like DDT and my mum or even to help identify the early stages and raise more awareness of the disease.
Challenge for me is to do 310,000 steps in May!
