Story
Over 90,000 patients are admitted to L&D's Emergency department each year. Approximately 25% have life-threatening injuries.
When someone suffers a major trauma, the faster they receive emergency care, the more likely it is that the treatment will prevent death or serious disability.
Currently, the nearest hospital helipad is 25 miles away. That's why having a helipad at the L&D hospital will enhance the ability to provide crucial emergency care for more patients each year.
A helipad at L&D will service:
• An Emergency Department renowned for being one of the best in the country
• An accredited regional Stroke Unit and purpose-built Cardiac Centre with a team who are able to care for patients during and immediately after having a heart attack
• Designated hospital for thrombolysis (an emergency treatment where a drug is used to dissolve blood clots in the brain and must be given within 4 hours)
• The only Level 3 NICU in the country with 24-hour helipad access
Donate now so if a loved one ever needed helicopter transportation to a hospital, L&D will be ready.
