Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
I am Elaine Theaker, one of a crew of three females, known as Atlantic Ladies, who became the first all female crew to row any ocean and the oldest team of females to row any ocean, earning two World Records.
We set off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands on 14th December 2017, rowed 3,000 miles and arrived in Nelson's Dockyard, Antigua in the Caribbean on 13th February 2018. All this in a boat measuring just 7m x 2m! We battled huge storms, fierce winds, 40ft waves, two terrifying capsizes just 37 mile from Antigua, experienced body sores and sleep deprivation and tested our bodies to their physical limits during this gruelling challenge.
Alzheimer's Society is my chosen charity and an organisation very close to my heart. My mum died of dementia in 2011 so I have, sadly, witnessed the painful and devastating decline of a loved one from this cruel disease.
I would like you to help us raise as much money as possible for Alzheimer's Society, an amazing organisation which does so much to actively help sufferers and their families through the very worst of times.
