Story

FINAL UPDATE - see pics on the left

We did it in 23 1/2 hours, here some details for the geeks:

- Started on Saturday at 5.45pm at Glen Nevis up to Ben Nevis (1,344 metres (4,409 ft)) and back in 4 1/2 hours.

- Arrived at Wasdale on Sunday morning for a 4am start to ascend Scafell Pike (978 metres (3,209 ft)) and down again in 3 hrs 40 mins.

- Traffic jam en route to Wales to get to Pen-y-Pass for Snowdon (1,085 metres (3,560 ft) - but unlike the other two we don't start at sea level, so only 720 metres (2,362 ft) of actual climb here): set out at 1.45pm, and completed the challenge when arriving back at Pen-y-Pass at 5.15pm.

Many, many thanks for your fantastic support. What a great result for 'At Home in the Community'!

Thank you very much indeed.

Dagmar and Lyn

(P.S. This page will still accept donations for a little while.)

UPDATE 10th May

Saturday saw fantastic weather for the Haltwhistle Challenge and we hope the hills offered good training for what is to come ... You can see a couple of photos of the event by clicking on the blue word 'Photos' under the photo.

UPDATE 3rd May

Lyn and I getting nervous now, less than three weeks to go, but hugely encouraged by your generosity which will do so much for "At Home". Thank you very much indeed. Our last big training event forthcoming is the Haltwhistle Challenge on 8th May, 26 miles around the Centre of Britain, along Hadrian's Wall and Pennine Way and eventually via Lambley Viaduct back through the South Tyne Valley.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page for our National Three Peaks Challenge.

On 22/23 May we shall be attempting to walk/jog/run up (and down!) the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales respectively, with the aim of completing this in 24 hours.

We begin with Ben Nevis in Scotland at 5pm on Saturday evening, after a drive with hopefully some sleep for us it's up Scafell in the Lake District (beginning with headtorches around 3am), and we finish off with Snowdon on Sunday afternoon. - The latter will be familiar territory to both of us since we enjoyed together the Welsh 3000s Challenge (albeit over three days) last year. You can see a couple of photos if you click on the photos - the cover one is of the Kirkcudbright Half Marathon last year.

And we are doing this in aid of an extremely worthwhile local charity, At Home in the Community, which does so much for people in our part of the world.

Any donation is very gratefully received and will actually make a difference in enabling this fantastic charity to further support adults with learning disabilities to live life to the full.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.

Please support as generously as you can: us, At Home in the Community and adults with learning disabilities.

Thank you.

Dagmar and Lyn

P.S.For those in the know regarding concerns raised about the Three Peaks Challenge, we hasten to add that 'At Home in the Community' of course abides by the Code of Conduct for the Three Peaks Challenge and, at any rate, is only fielding a very small group. Full time drivers will park away from the starting area when we are in the hills.
