There are an estimated 50 million donkeys and mules in the world, many of which are struggling as much as ever due to overwork, neglect, abandonment, abuse, or inhumane conditions. The Donkey Sanctuary’s goal is to bring care to 2 million donkeys in 40 countries by 2018. Since 1969, The Donkey Sanctuary has depended entirely on donations so your donation really is of great value.

We provide donkey assisted therapy for children and adults with additional needs and therapeutic visits to care homes in the local community from centres in:

The charity gives over 50,000 donkey assisted therapy sessions a year. Through these projects in the UK and overseas we improve the lives of children and adults with additional needs immeasurably.

Our donkeys also benefit from the stimulation and contact that comes from interaction with children and adults.

The children who attend the centres have a wide range of additional needs and disabilities and may have difficulties with physical, social or behavioural interactions. Our donkeys help children achieve success on each of their journeys through social and physical achievements.
