Story

We, Avon and Somerset Roads Policing and Road Safety Units, will be completing a cycle based #AndyCoxChallenge for 2022.

More than 50 lives are lost on the roads of Avon and Somerset every year and this figure has plateaued over the last 8 years. Each year 50 families will receive a message no one should ever have to hear and the devastation this brings is truly heart breaking.

Therefore we are taking to the bikes for a five day tour (16th-20th May) around the force area with each stage being just over 50 miles.

This distance, whilst symbolic with our fatality rate, will act as a focal point to get more people talking about and addressing road danger. Many of the roads we'll ride during the week will have a story to tell of a victim and a family tragically affected by road death.

We are also calling on the public to take to the roads & join our #AndyCoxChallenge. Take on your own #RideRunWalk 🏃‍♂️🚴🚶‍♀️🏍🏇 of >50 miles between now & 22nd May.

So what are we supporting?

The Andy Cox Challenge 2022: How far will you go to save lives on our roads?

Building in the foundations of a hugely successful challenge in 2021, raising over £50k for RoadPeace, the largest amount raised for the charity by an individual fundraiser, Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Cox is taking his challenge for 2022 to the next level.

Andy's Challenge

30miles a day for 7 days - Andy will be doing 30miles of activity (a walk, a run, a cycle) across the country

'From Force to Family' - the routes will start at a Police Station and travel to people affected by road death and injury, who will tell their stories and shed light on the 5 people killed every day on our roads.

43 Police Forces - it won’t just be Andy out there meeting victims, representatives from each of England and Wales' 43 Police Forces will be out there doing the same.

30 miles for 30 Years - Andy has chosen the 30mile figure to honour and celebrate the 30th Anniversary of RoadPeace, which was set up in 1992.

Andy's aim is that with this challenge, he can amplify victim's voices and bring road danger reduction to the forefront of national conversation, and prevent the needless deaths and injury on our roads.
