Story

This year the Ashurst Glasgow office are proud to be supporting their chosen charity, Yorkhill. We are working towards making a real difference and to achieve a tangible goal, to raise £10,000 for this local charity to build 5 bespoke bedding units for parent/family members to be able to stay at the hospital with their children.

At 11 a.m on Saturday 27 June, Ashurst will be taking part in one last event to raise money for Yorkhill. To do this, 24 members of our thrill-seeking Glasgow office will be taking part in White Water Rafting at Grandtully! Each participant must raise a minimum of £30.  All participants will be split into groups of 8 then compete against one another in a race which lasts for 5 miles, then once everyone has regrouped they will take on the last section of rapids.

Below is the names of our members braving the wet (and very cold) rapids in one last attempt to raise all we can for a wonderful cause:

Summary

Yorkhill Children’s Charity was established in 2001 following the incorporation of Yorkhill Sick Children’s Fund which had been in existence since 1981 http://www.yorkhill.org/

The Charity provides and supports excellence in paediatric, obstetric and neonatal healthcare enhancing the treatment, care and wellbeing of children and their families through The Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill and other hospital and community based services both nationally and internationally.  From a broken arm to end of life care, from simple play activities to innovative medical equipment and ground breaking paediatric research, the charities driving passion is to fund initiatives that help to save or improve the life of a child and by association positively affect the lives of their family.

Local Presence

Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill, Glasgow has been in operation since 1914.

In 2008 the Scottish Government gave approval for a new hospital development on the south side of Glasgow.  A key element of this major project is the building of a new children’s hospital to replace the existing Royal Hospital for Sick Children currently situated at Yorkhill.

A brand new 256-bed children’s hospital will be built in Govan and is due to open in the summer of 2015. The new hospital will be physically linked to the refurbished maternity unit and a new adult hospital in order to provide the best possible care for babies, children, young people and their families.
